How to KNOW you’re going to Heaven: Jesus came to bring us certainty of life after death however, there is still an elephant in the room – many of us are not certain – we are going to heaven!! Some religions believe you must serve penance to enter; some believe “if it’s God’s will” you will enter, others still have certainty they will be a animal in the next life. Believers in God through Jesus Christ have a certainty that starts on earth…wow!
John 3:16 is categoric. For God so love the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever “believes” on Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. This sounds very certain to me!! Do you believe on Jesus Christ?
During my short lifetime on this wonderful earth, many preachers have focused heavily, some exclusively, on deliberately “scaring” people into the kingdom. The negative impact of this is – a “right and wrong” approach to living, instead of a “spirit and truth” approach.
People will tell you…Christians are supposed to do x or y and not z. As a result, living in spirit and truth, while still important, is relegated. In their focus its important to be seen to be doing the right thing. Problem is, right and wrong are branches of the same tree…the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
When we live through the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus tells us, don’t be amazed or celebrate that the powers of darkness obey us. Interesting. He said, when these things happen, to rejoice that our names are written in the book. Amazing!!! What confidence!! What certainty!!
Are you now certain you are going to heaven? No. Why on earth not? Do you realise it’s in your hands? That heaven is open to all who believe? Do you realise all the tools are at your disposal and it’s your decision!! All you need to do is believe on Jesus Christ.
Now, at this stage I normally get the big “but” interjection…but you can’t accept Jesus and do whatever you want and still feel you are going to heaven. I have since realise, this is the enemy attempting to turn our free salvation into “earning” our salvation.
Here’s why. First, Jesus likened the kingdom of heaven to a man finding a pearl in a field. That he sells all he has to purchase that field. Second, Jesus also said “take My yoke upon you and learn of Me,..” When we truly understand the salvation we have freely been given, we willingly give up all to have that inheritance.
Jesus also said, all who are weary and heavy laden come onto me and I will give you rest. That means we come in our current state – whatever that state is. No conditions. Well, the only condition is we receive rest. There is no prior condition, it’s an invitation. So the “fear” of unfaithfulness isn’t the focus, it’s the love of Jesus that inspires us.
