“Do not be afraid” is written 145 times in the bible. Most of those 145 instances relate to human interactions; the remainder relate to circumstances involving human interaction – so in fact all 145 instances relate to human interactions. Not one of those “do not be afraid” encouragements relate to the enemy – the devil. Yes, not one!!
Then the Lord said to Joshua, ‘Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Joshua 8:1. This is one example from the 145 instances encouraging a decision to simply – don’t be afraid.
Ecclesiastes 11:10 – So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body. Again the instruction is very simple and has no pre conditions. Simply… banish anxiety from your heart.
The point is, managing fear is a decision. Its a decision that you and I have to make when facing people and circumstances. Our human instincts are screaming at us to flee, run, hide…however the bible tells us to simply decide to not be afraid.
Within the 145 instance of do not be afraid, the Lord was encouraging in order to overcome some difficulty. To overcome we need to decide to not be afraid. I know it sounds illogical. I agree. That’s because things of the spirit are illogical to the human mind – for example – how can God speak and the world as we know it is formed.
The answer is to engage the Holy Spirit and simply make that decision to not be afraid.
