Approximately 23 bible verses talk about risk. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding”. Proverbs 3:5. “For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away”. Matthew 25:29

I have known myself for all my life and so have you. You and I both trust ourselves (or maybe not), in general most people trust their own judgement.

Now God comes along and says to us, don’t trust your own thinking on the issues that affect you, trust me. On the face of it, most of us will keep quiet, but a few will say, fat chance of that happening.

Trusting God is one of the most difficult things a human can do. It requires a surrendering of ones will and the ability to listen and hear the Holy Spirit through the shouting from everywhere for our attention.

However the fact is, God has been around for longer than all of us put together. He sits outside of time and space and is omnipresent – He sees all and knows all. Through Him all things have their being.

Now, when you understand this BIG BIG BIG God, its easier to trust and lean on His understanding rather than our own.

This is the way to manage risk. Lean on God’s understanding of your life’s situations and not on your mis-understandings. God has been here for eternity. I think He knows a thing or two and has seen the best and worse of human nature. I think its fair to say, God understands it better than we could ever imagine.

The simple answer to managing risk? “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding”
