Mis-edification: Poor in Spirit…what exactly does this actually mean? Jesus said “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven“. (Matthew 5:3).

Were you taught this to be about humility, not being boastful but being seen but not heard? Would you be shocked to learn this has absolutely nothing to do with humility or being boastful, or anything to do with our demeanour.

Those who are poor in spirit are required to rely on God to provide their spirit. Those who appear rich in spirit are self-sufficient and don’t need God. But those who are poor in spirit know they need help.

And being poor in spirit comes with a promise – for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Because they rely on God.

Still trying to behave good into heaven; waste of time. Rely on God always – which maintains your poor in spirit status, and be destined for heaven.

Be encouraged.
