Praying can overrule…what exactly does this mean? OK, God created the heavens and the earth, which means He has power over the heavens and the earth. In the same way, humans have power over the things we create. We can care for, rule over as well as destroy the things we create.
In the bible, there are numerous accounts where the prayers of humans, moved God to overrule the natural order of things, to enable an outcome consistent with His desires.
Joshua prayed for the sun and moon to stand still to enable a battle to be won, God heard his prayer and made the sun and moon stand still for 24 hours (Joshua 10:12). The prophet Elijah taunted the followers of Baal and made them drench his own sacrifice in water (1 Kings 18:20-40). Elijah then prayed to the Great I AM, to send fire from heaven to burn up the water soaked sacrifices. God heard his prayer and sent fire to burn up the sacrifices.
God has power over the universe which He created. Today your prayers and my prayers are heard in heaven and God can decide to overrule the natural order of things, to bring about a purpose consistent with His will.
God spoke these words – I will make a way where there is no way, essentially overruling the natural order of things to bring about a holy purpose which is initiated by us.
