God asks Adam “What have you done”?  This simple statement has caused major misinderstandings for hundreds of years. Simply because of the tone used when repeating it. Granted, none of us were there when God asked this question, so no one, no matter how Holy you believe your pastor to be, knows for a fact the tone God used.

Did God ask this question in anger, in compassion, in disbelief, with incredulity, in frustration…we don’t know for a fact. But which ever tone you apply builds up your impression of God, and possibly your response to Him.

Many teachers of the Word today, opt for the anger tone and skip compassion altogether. As a result their “religion” is legalistic and very much driven by do’s and dont’s, but mainly dont’s.

Now I choose to apply the compassion tone. The bible is littered with so many clues: John 3:16 is about the most explicit – for God so loves the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whosoever believes on Him should not perish but have eternal life”.

Now remember also; God knew the harrowing consequences if Adam made the wrong choice. Since that time, God has remained connected to men throughout every generation, to restore them and the world to Himself.

Is this the approach of an angry God? I choose to believe our Great God spoke to Adam out of 100% compassion.
