I love this question and variations of it; asked by believers and non-believers alike. And it’s an opportunity to shed some light on a very simple yet absolutely powerful statement…
“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground”. (Genesis 1:27-28)
It is God’s intention that “Man” as in both male and female together, rule over the earth. Our sphere of influence and rule is this earth, everything that happens on this earth, good and bad, is down to us…humans.
Poverty in the world – created by humans.
Wars in the world – created by humans.
Economic mis-management – created by humans.
Name anything that is destroying life and at the source of it you will find human hands. Now the follow up question is – why does God allow these bad things to happen. If there is a God he would intervene rather than observing human suffering.
As a matter of fact, God does intervene and continues to intervene – not the way we’d like. We also have a role in combatting evil.
Self interest makes “good” people keep silent out of fear of harm or disbenfit. Silence fuels evil. Turning a blind eye to injustice means we have stopped ruling as God intended.
